The Mystery Tubes
So the mystery tubes were created to help fundraise for the Islington Mill to repair their roof. They've got to raise a whopping £700k in order for that to happen and so if anyone is wanting to help out, you can check out their site and order your own, or pop into store and turn the handle yourself!
The mystery tube itself is full of original art prints or early editions from local artists and designers and are worth (collectively) over £100 which is fantastic. I loved not knowing what to expect from the tube and was happily pleased with my random lot. The prints I received will definitely be featuring on my wall in the near future (once I get a frame for them) Here are a couple of the favourites (not the best quality images but they were curled and I was excited)
This is the sort of thing I hope to be a part of one day. These prints are not only for a fantastic cause but obviously amazing exposure as well. The artists supplying these prints are at various stages of their career which means if any of them are in early stages, they're getting their work out into the world and who knows where they could eventually end up! It's a great concept and I love the unknown final locations of where someone's work could end up. After all of the talks about working for free, I think we can at least meet half way and say this is an example of when it may be more suitable.
Would you agree?
From what a member of staff told me, I believe the mystery box holding the mystery tubes is moving onto other locations in its quest to raise more money. I hope you can find the pennies deep in your pockets to help save the creative space that homes so much great talent and passion. If I could, I would buy more tubes, but my funds aren't stretching as far as I'd like.
If any of you guys have got your hands on a tube I'd love to see what else was hidden in them! Share below! CK♥
